Katie is SO detail oriented and meticulous. I just love working with her because of her attention to detail and how specific she is with her work. She looks at your actual anatomy and proceeds based on the right work for your face! I also love that she has so many holistic alternative non toxic options like PRF Gel and PRP with microneedling to name a few. She is a very skilled injector and you will feel like a piece of art that she is curating when she works on you. I refer all of my people to her! So happy to have found her

Microneedling in Scottsdale
with your own PRF
SkinPen microneedling in Scottsdale, paired with platelet-rich fibrin drawn from your own blood. SkinPen gently stimulates new collagen and your PRF nourishes the repair, refining texture, acne scarring and pore size. Performed by a nurse practitioner, $450 a session.

Controlled stimulus,
natural repair
Microneedling is collagen induction therapy. A sterile cartridge of very fine needles creates thousands of microscopic channels in the skin. Each one is tiny, yet together they prompt the body's natural repair process, laying down new collagen and elastin in the layer where texture and scarring live.
The result is structural remodeling that builds over eight to twelve weeks and keeps improving between sessions. That's why we plan a course of three or four treatments, so each session builds on the last and your skin keeps refining well beyond the first week.
Adding PRF enhances the healing. We draw a small amount of your blood, spin it, and apply the platelet-rich fibrin into the fresh channels. Those channels close within about an hour, so your growth factors reach deeper than a topical serum can. Nothing synthetic is involved: it is your own biology, concentrated.
- ✓A collagen treatment for texture, scarring and pore size
- ✓Safe on all skin tones, unlike many resurfacing lasers
- ✓Cumulative: each session builds on the one before
- ✓Fully autologous when paired with PRF; nothing synthetic is introduced
- ✕A treatment for volume loss; filler is the better fit
- ✕A treatment for movement lines; Botox softens those
- ✕A single-session treatment; most patients need three to four
- ✕Ideal for deep ice-pick scarring, which usually needs a different approach
$450 a session,
PRF included
SkinPen microneedling with PRF is $450 a session, including the blood draw, the spin and the PRF application. Microneedling on its own is $350 a session. Most patients need three to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, and we'll confirm at your consultation whether fewer will do.
Course pricing is discussed at your consultation. PRF injections and PRF EZ Gel are separate treatments, each quoted individually.
Nine concerns microneedling
can improve
Microneedling works on the structure and surface of the skin. Below is what responds beautifully, what responds more gradually, and what is better suited to another treatment, so your plan is built around what your skin needs.
Acne scarring
Rolling and boxcar scars respond well because the concern is tethered, disorganized collagen. Deep ice-pick scars respond less and usually benefit from subcision or a resurfacing referral. We'll identify your scar type at consultation.
Enlarged pores
Pore size is largely a function of the collagen supporting the pore wall. Rebuild that scaffolding and pores appear tighter. It's one of the most reliably satisfying results we see.
Rough texture
Skin that feels uneven or grainy to the touch, even when it photographs well. Texture usually improves earliest, often noticeably by the second session.
Fine lines
Crepey texture around the eyes and mouth, and the fine lines that appear at rest. Deeper movement lines respond best to a neuromodulator.
Dullness
New collagen and improved cell turnover restore the way skin reflects light. This is the change patients notice first and describe as looking rested.
Under-eye crepiness
Treated with a shallower depth and usually paired with PRF. For hollowing rather than texture, PRF injections or filler are the appropriate treatment.
Neck & décolletage
Areas that show age and are often overlooked. They heal more slowly than the face because they have fewer oil glands, so we space sessions further apart.
Stretch marks & surgical scars
Off-face treatment on the abdomen, thighs or a cesarean scar. Newer red stretch marks respond better than older white ones, and progress is gradual but real.
Melasma-prone skin
Microneedling is safe on all skin tones where many resurfacing lasers are not. Because it can aggravate melasma at the wrong depth, we assess this individually and often begin with a VI Peel.
What happens
in the skin
The needles start the process; your skin's own healing response creates the result. Here's how it unfolds.
Micro-channels are created
SkinPen's sterile cartridge moves vertically to create thousands of microscopic channels at a set depth. This vertical motion creates clean, precise channels, where rollers tend to drag across the skin.
The wound-healing cascade begins
The body reads the channels as injury and floods the area with platelets and growth factors. This is the inflammatory phase, and it is why the skin flushes for a day or two.
PRF goes in while the channels are open
The channels close within roughly an hour. Applying platelet-rich fibrin during that window delivers concentrated growth factors into the dermis, deeper than any topical serum can reach.
New collagen is laid down
Fibroblasts produce fresh collagen and elastin over the following weeks. The old, disorganized collagen that forms a scar is gradually replaced with better-organized tissue.
Remodeling continues for months
Collagen keeps maturing for eight to twelve weeks after each session. That's why results build between appointments, and why we assess your progress at the end of the course rather than after one visit.
An unhurried hour,
designed for comfort
Skin assessment
We look at scar type, texture, pore size and pigment, and set the depth for each zone. If another treatment would suit your skin better, we'll recommend it here.
Blood draw and spin
A small draw, much like routine bloodwork, then eight to ten minutes in the centrifuge at low speed. No anticoagulant is added, which allows fibrin to form rather than plasma.
Numbing
Topical anesthetic for 20 to 30 minutes. This is the longest part of your visit, and the reason most patients describe the treatment as comfortable.
Microneedling with PRF
Fifteen to twenty minutes of passes across the face, depth adjusted by zone, with PRF applied into the open channels as we work.
Aftercare
You leave flushed, like moderate sunburn, with the PRF left on your skin for the rest of the day. We send you home with written aftercare.

Individual results vary. All photographs are of KORA patients, unretouched, in identical lighting and framing, shared with written consent.
Microneedling timeline, session by session
Microneedling causes 24 to 48 hours of redness resembling mild sunburn. Texture improves from around week two and collagen remodeling continues for 8 to 12 weeks. Most patients need 3 to 4 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.
Treating before an event? Allow at least two weeks for a single session, and start a full course three to four months ahead.
The area patients
ask about most
PRF injected under the eyes is a different treatment from microneedling, and the two are often confused. Microneedling with PRF improves crepey texture on the surface. PRF injected into the tear trough addresses hollowing and skin quality in the deeper tissue, and typically takes two to three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Expect firm swelling for two to four days: PRF swells more than filler at first, then settles into a softer, more gradual result. It usually lasts twelve to eighteen months and, because it is entirely your own blood, it cannot be dissolved. We'll talk this through with you as you weigh it against hyaluronic acid filler.
- ✓Fully autologous, no synthetic product
- ✓2–3 sessions, 4–6 weeks apart
- ✓Firm swelling for 2–4 days is normal
- ✓Cannot be dissolved, unlike HA filler
When to wait,
and why
Microneedling is best postponed during active inflammatory or cystic acne, since treating inflamed skin can spread bacteria and worsen it. We also wait until six months after isotretinoin, and we avoid treatment with a history of keloid scarring, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over active cold sores or infection, and where the main concern is pigment rather than texture. In several of these cases a VI Peel or a course of medical-grade skincare is the better starting point, and we'll guide you to the right option.
- ✓Wait until inflammatory acne settles
- ✓Six months after isotretinoin
- ✓Not advised with a keloid history
- ✓Postponed during pregnancy or breastfeeding
Your own plasma,
as a filler
EZ Gel is PRF heated and then cooled, which denatures the albumin into a gel with the consistency of a soft hyaluronic acid filler, made entirely from your own blood. It suits patients who want volume restoration under the eyes or in fine lines without synthetic product. It gives a softer lift than HA filler, lasts around nine to twelve months, and is a distinct choice we'll help you weigh at your consultation.
- ✓100% autologous, no synthetic filler
- ✓Softer lift than hyaluronic acid
- ✓Typically lasts 9–12 months
Why we choose PRF
for your skin
Both are concentrated from your own blood, and the names are often used interchangeably, though they are prepared differently. PRP is spun fast with an anticoagulant added, which yields a liquid that releases its growth factors quickly, largely within the first day. PRF is spun slower with no additives at all, which allows a natural fibrin scaffold to form. That scaffold holds platelets and white blood cells and releases growth factors gradually over seven to ten days, and it also retains stem cells that PRP's processing discards. For skin and hair we favor this slower, sustained release, and with no additives the treatment is entirely autologous.
Which skin treatment is right for you?
These four are often grouped together as skin treatments, and each has its own strength. Microneedling rebuilds collagen for texture and scarring. PRF injections treat under-eye hollowing and hair thinning. EZ Gel restores volume using your own blood. A VI Peel targets pigment. If your main concern is brown patches rather than texture, a peel will serve you far better than microneedling.

Three nurse practitioners,, one shared approach
KORA Aesthetics was founded by Katie Manhardt, MSN, FNP-C, a board-certified family nurse practitioner and national clinical trainer. She is joined by Audrey Bakken, NP, a board-certified nurse practitioner with more than 23 years in medicine and over a decade in aesthetics, whose focus includes microneedling, skin health and PRF under-eye rejuvenation, and by Dana Nichols, NP, a board-certified nurse practitioner whose nine years in the ICU shape her calm, detail-oriented care.
Every microneedling treatment is performed by one of our board-certified nurse practitioners. Each begins with a careful skin assessment and a plan built around your skin and goals, for natural-looking results that build over time.
SkinPen, the FDA-cleared device
SkinPen by Crown Aesthetics was the first microneedling device cleared by the FDA, with sterile single-use cartridges and precise vertical motion for clean, even treatment.
Depth set per zone, by a clinician
Forehead, cheek and under-eye each need a different depth, and the right setting makes every session effective while protecting your skin. Every treatment is performed by a nurse practitioner.
What Scottsdale says about microneedling at KORA
Katie helped me kickstart my journey into bettering my skin. She took the time to listen to my concerns, address my questions and helped me find the best treatment plan for me. 2 years later and I cannot thank her enough, my skin looks better than it has in a decade. This has not only translated externally on the surface but internally as well with confidence. She has helped me correct sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles through microneedling, under eye PRP, dysport, Botox and sculptra and medical grade skincare. Trust her with your face, you will be so thankful that you did!
How to prep & what to do after
Start about one week ahead
- Stop retinoids, glycolic and salicylic acids and any exfoliating actives for 5 to 7 days beforehand.
- Avoid sun exposure and self-tan for two weeks, as we're unable to treat sunburned or freshly tanned skin.
- No waxing, threading or hair removal on the area for a week.
- Hydrate well the day before and the morning of your visit; it makes the blood draw easier and improves your PRF yield.
- Tell us about any cold sore history. Microneedling can trigger an outbreak and we may prescribe antiviral cover.
- Reschedule if you have active inflammatory acne, an infection, or open skin in the area.
- Arrive without makeup where possible, and eat beforehand.
The first 24 hours matter most
- Leave the PRF on the skin. Do not wash your face until the following morning.
- Water only for the first 24 hours, then a plain gentle cleanser. No actives for 5 to 7 days.
- No makeup for 24 hours; mineral makeup only after that.
- No exercise, sauna, hot tub or steam for 48 hours, as sweat in open channels can lead to infection.
- Avoid the sun carefully and wear mineral SPF 30+ daily. New collagen is delicate, and sun exposure can undo its progress.
- Expect redness for 24 to 48 hours and possible dryness or flaking on days 3 to 5. Let it resolve naturally, without picking or exfoliating.
- Sleep on a clean pillowcase and keep hands off your face.
- Call us for spreading redness, swelling, heat, pus, fever or any blistering. Infection after microneedling is rare, and we'll want to see you promptly.
Microneedling questions, answered by our team
Basics
What is microneedling?+
Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, uses a sterile cartridge of fine needles to create thousands of microscopic channels in the skin. The controlled healing response that follows produces new collagen and elastin, improving texture, acne scarring and pore size.
Cost
How much does microneedling cost in Scottsdale?+
At KORA, SkinPen microneedling with PRF is $450 a session, including the blood draw and PRF application. Microneedling without PRF is $350 a session, and your consultation is complimentary.
How many sessions do I need?+
Most patients need three to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Acne scarring often needs four to six, and body areas such as stretch marks need more. We assess this at consultation.
Treatment
Does microneedling hurt?+
Very little, thanks to the topical numbing applied for 20 to 30 minutes beforehand. Most patients describe a light, sandpapery vibration, more noticeable on the forehead and around the nose where skin sits close to bone.
How long is the downtime?+
24 to 48 hours of redness resembling mild sunburn. Many patients work from home the next day and are comfortable in mineral makeup by day two. Some dryness or light flaking follows on days three to five.
PRF
What is PRF and why do you use it instead of PRP?+
PRF is platelet-rich fibrin, concentrated from your own blood at a lower spin speed with no anticoagulant added. That allows a fibrin scaffold to form, which releases growth factors gradually over 7 to 10 days and retains stem cells that PRP processing discards. PRP releases faster, largely within a day.
How long does PRF under the eyes last?+
Typically 12 to 18 months. Most patients need two to three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart to reach the full result, and it builds gradually rather than appearing immediately.
What are the side effects of PRF under the eyes?+
Firm swelling for two to four days is normal and more pronounced than with hyaluronic acid filler, along with possible bruising and tenderness. Because PRF is entirely your own blood there is no allergy risk. It also cannot be dissolved, which we'll talk through with you as you weigh it against filler.
Results
Does microneedling help acne scars?+
Rolling and boxcar scars respond well, because the underlying concern is tethered, disorganized collagen. Deep ice-pick scars respond less and usually benefit from subcision or a resurfacing referral. We'll identify your scar type at your consultation.
Does microneedling shrink pores?+
It improves how large they appear. Pore size is largely determined by the collagen supporting the pore wall, so rebuilding that scaffolding tightens the appearance. It is one of the most consistently satisfying results we see.
When will I see results?+
Texture and glow start changing around week two. Collagen remodeling continues for 8 to 12 weeks after each session, so the best time to assess results is at the end of your course rather than after a single visit.
Safety
Is microneedling safe for darker skin tones?+
Yes. Because it does not use heat or light, microneedling carries a much lower risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation than many resurfacing lasers, and is safe across all Fitzpatrick types. Depth still needs to be set appropriately.
Who should not have microneedling?+
We recommend postponing or avoiding microneedling if you have active inflammatory or cystic acne, have taken isotretinoin within the last six months, have a history of keloid scarring, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have an active infection or cold sore in the area. We review all of this carefully at your consultation.
Can I combine microneedling with Botox or filler?+
Yes, though usually not on the same day. We normally schedule microneedling two weeks after injectables so swelling has resolved and the treatments are assessed independently.
Location
Do you treat patients from Paradise Valley?+
Frequently. Our clinic is on 69th Street just south of Shea — inside Scottsdale, a few hundred yards from the Paradise Valley boundary, usually a five to ten minute drive from most of PV.
Where in Scottsdale are you located?+

A full skin assessment, a personalized course length, and clear guidance on whether microneedling is the right treatment for your skin and goals.
Worried about the downtime?
It's 24 to 48 hours of redness, like mild sunburn. Most patients treat on a Thursday or Friday and are back to their routine by Monday in mineral makeup.
Not sure how many sessions you need?
That's what your consultation is for. We assess scar type, texture and pigment and recommend a course length tailored to you, sometimes shorter than you expected.
Nervous about the blood draw?
It is a small draw, much like routine bloodwork, and takes under a minute. The centrifuge runs while your numbing cream works, so it adds nothing to your appointment time.
Tried microneedling before without the results you hoped for?
Depth and device make a real difference. Share what you know about your past treatment, and we'll recommend the approach that best suits your skin.
