Botox is injected in units directly into the muscle creating the line, into the muscle belly rather than the skin. Placement is where expertise matters most, since a few millimeters can decide whether a brow lifts or drops.
Botox blocks the release of acetylcholine, the messenger that tells that muscle to contract. The effect is temporary, and the signal is only paused.
With the muscle at rest, the skin above it is no longer being creased hundreds of times a day. Existing lines soften and new ones stop deepening.
Over three to four months the body grows new nerve terminals, movement returns, and the treatment is repeated. Treating consistently often means fewer units over time.

Men typically carry greater muscle mass in the forehead and glabella, and generally require 20 to 50 percent more units for the same result. We dose to the strength of your muscles rather than a standard chart, so the result is effective and still natural. Many of our male patients want the line softened with no visible change to how their face moves, and we plan with that in mind.
If it's your first treatment, or you'd like a subtle start, we can begin with a conservative dose. More can be added at your two-week review, though units can't be removed once placed. Many first-time patients prefer this approach, and it lets us see how your muscles respond before fine-tuning.
Botulinum toxin was treating muscle conditions long before its cosmetic use. Beyond softening lines, we offer three therapeutic treatments: chronic migraine and underarm hyperhidrosis, both FDA-approved uses, and jaw clenching and TMJ, an established off-label use. These use set, considerably higher doses than cosmetic areas and are quoted separately. Migraine treatment is frequently covered by insurance, and we're happy to help you check your benefits before you commit.
Botox and Dysport are both botulinum toxin type A, and both relax muscle, with small differences between them. Filler and Sculptra work in a different way, restoring volume that has been lost. Lines that remain when your face is completely still usually respond best to volume or collagen support. Many patients over thirty-five combine the two.

Botulinum toxin has been in clinical use for over three decades and in cosmetic use since 2002. Side effects are usually limited to temporary bruising, tenderness or a mild headache. Serious complications are rare and most often relate to injection technique, which is why every treatment at KORA is performed by a board-certified nurse practitioner.
Anyone pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding; anyone with a neuromuscular condition such as myasthenia gravis or ALS; anyone with an infection at the injection site; and anyone with a known allergy to botulinum toxin or its components.
